I'm a manga reader who was never much of a comics reader. One of the things I love about manga is that it's sometime counter-intuitive (at least for me) and so requires more attention to detail and slower reading time. This might be bothersome to some people but I prefer to look at it as an experience to be savored--enjoying a piece of dark chocolate as opposed to eating a whole piece of cake. The right-to-left progression, sometimes jarring or cropped artwork, cultural differences that can be seen despite translation, all add up to something that makes me concentrate a bit more than I would with American-style comics.
