Shoukei did spend several human lifetimes being 13, an age not really known for critical thinking or intelligent life choices, cut off from anything resembling reality and being brainwashed into thinking her parents and their lifestyle were the bestest, most perfect and blameless things ever, and then was treated (for her, we know it could have been worse, but she has no comparison) like the spawn of Satan when that ended. I tend to think that realizing any corruption in something resembling her former lifestyle is rather worldview altering for her.
