Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid Ep. 4, Prince of Tennis 2-5
FMP: TSR 4
Bah.
Melissa Mao is very cool indeed. She's a little like a human-level Motoko Kusanagi. (Kawcrow, I agree that she'd be much cooler than Tessa that way, but I'm glad she's not, so I can just enjoy her as Sousuke's awesome army buddy.) The scary twincest assassins are far less obnoxious as villains than balding crazy guy, but I still feel like they, and the overall plotty drama--well, this plot, anyway--simply should not exist in the same show as Kaname, not least when they get more screentime than Kaname. In this episode, "more screentime" means "any at all." BAH.
Prince of Tennis 2-5
For a show with such crappy production values, this is surprisingly watchable--even the first three episodes, which covered material I had very recently read. My initial impression is that the first volume of the manga is better manga than the first five episodes of the anime are television--but I still enjoyed the anime more. That's almost certainly because I like the voices.
When I'm starting on such huge pile of material, I feel a little silly even talking about the beginning. It's very likely that a lot about the story is going to change in a hundred and sixty episodes, and perhaps even drop the things that most appeal to me now (or not, since, as with Naruto, the most appealing thing to me is the main character). Most of the PoT talk I've observed--not much, since it's not big on my flist--tends to focus on stuff that isn't even in the early part of the show.
Aaaaanyway. I'm not watching PoT because of the legendary gay or chibi filler episodes or anything. I'm watching/reading Prince of Tennis because I get curious about what makes huge hits so popular, because I've found I like the sports manga/anime format, and because I like Ryoma. >_> It remains to be seen whether it will eat my brain.
So, if I was going to start a new series, why didn't I just watch Hikaru no Go? It comes universally well-recommended by people I respect, and I've been meaning to watch it for months anyway. Also, with a mere 80 episodes, it's considerably shorter. I am a fandom butterfly, and I suck. I'll watch HnG eventually.
