"Come out...the steel fang..... GAKUTENOU!"
However... Midori's prowess notwithstanding? Shizuru was about to END that fight. She dragged Gakutenou in a direction away from everyone else and then was set to put them both down.
Also? Rado? SO terrified of Natsuki.
Episode 11: Oooh! Takumi! And Akira won't be far behind, I bet. Which means.... Mai! YAY!

(Fantastic Children is very involving. It'd be hard to concentrate on both at once anyway. I refuse to rewatch Futakoi Alternative on any night I watch something else, because I want to throw myself completely into it, and not be distracted by trying to trace the plot in Otome. I have notes for Futakoi Alt. Incoherent, badly spelled notes.)

Shizuru is the most badass of ther badass in Otome--even more badass than Haruka.
Ep. 11: If Akira is not far behind Takumi, I will the cry sad, angsty tears of where is my OTP? But I don't think we'll see Mai any time soon--I think that we'll find out what the deal is with Mai no sooner that the last third of the show--and she and Takumi might not even be siblings in this universe. As heartbreakingly sad as that would be.

As for Akira.... I'd bet we'll find that Takumi is a diplomat, and Akira his Otome, who is constantly chastising him for being a weakling and trying to make him not one. And Mai... well... I think we'll get some more implied bits about Mai. I truly don't think she's going to be entirely on the side of the angels, though. I mean... The Otome as a group are rather overpowered at present. She may not be a part of Aswald or the Shibaratsu, but... I think she'll probably be at cross purposes to everyone else. Mai's primary interests have ALWAYS been to herself and her family.

This possible take on a Takumi/Akira relationship rocks my socks, and I hope it is so.
I think she'll probably be at cross purposes to everyone else.
Yeah. I strongly suspect that Mai's plot function is going to be more akin to "wild card" than "tragic loss." In the original show she was, practically speaking, a pacifist. Since most of the characters' essential personality elements have been preserved, if in some cases redirected--Mashiro is the notable exception--I'm curious to know if the Mai who attended an elite fighting school is also a pacifist.
