manga freak

I finally, FINALLY got Saiyuki Reload vol. 2, which has been out for how long now? I actually had to special order it. But. It's. All mine. Mwah hah hah hah.

But ohshit the Burial Arc doesn't start until vol. 3, does it?

Also, I bought Hana-Kimi vols. 5-8, and Othello vol. 6, and the other day, I bought Nodame Cantabile vols. 2-3, because it is extremely funny and surprisingly affecting despite the sketchy art.

And I just now remembered that I still have quite a bit of money on a gift card I forgot to use. Oh well.

Hah hah if I don't stop spending money on manga, I'll never be able to afford my own apartment, and I won't get to play on CFUD as often as I like. I need to be more careful with my money. Or to get a better-paying job. But if I get a better-paying job that isn't in a bookstore, I won't get a thirty percent discount on manga. asdgl/hjksdafgl/'jkhsdfgsdfgjkjk.hbgsdf

Saiyuki

Aaaaaand, volume 5 continues the fun. The first half, anyway. The second half is back in the present time, which is somewhat less gripping to me than Hakkai's incredibly tragic backstory, but since they took a full volume and a half to explore that, I can hardly complain.

To quote Goku, "Hakkai! Hakkai! Hakkai! Hakkai! Hakkai! Hakkai!" ^_^

When I was following the html road through LJ yesterday, I saw someone trying to convince someone else--velvet_mace, I think--that yes, Saiyuki was the best thing since sliced bread, and she was saying that Saiyuki was total fanservice when it came to bondage and so forth. My feeling is that you could easily whittle that down to "Saiyuki is total fanservice." ( Vaguely spoilery if you know nothing about Saiyuki at all. )

Saiyuki

As of volume 4, I am officially hooked on this manga.

Hakkai. Oh, Hakkai. ::pets::

Angst? Check.
Sexy guys? Check.
Lots and lots and lots of homoerotic subtext? Oh my, yes, check.
Refreshingly crude dialogue? Check. (E.g. "Crappity crappity crap." ^o^ Be still my Mark Miller-loathing heart.)

Basically, this thing has it all. Oh, there might be some plot in there somewhere, too. To be honest, I haven't been paying attention to much besides how totally married Hakkai and Gojyo are.
