Prince of Tennis...eps. whatever-11

This show is very cute. Ryoma eventually reveals that he does indeed have more than two personality traits (so far: reserve, drive, and now, macho pride). Not that I wouldn't be okay with just the two, but nuance is good. I have a clue what he's about, now.

Ryoma and Momo failing so badly at doubles tennis made me laugh out loud. Nothing helps you to get along with a rival like having your asses handed to you together, I guess.

Regarding Ryoma's cheerleader...probably, this show is never going to be a good show for girls; that is a common characteristic of boy's manga: sometimes, the girls in them are plot devices at best, and you have to accept that or reject that at the outset. But I kinda want to like her, even though she's just a puppy, and it's frustrating that the show keeps almost giving that relationship depth...and then not. It hints at some kind of "I'm not interested in people, but somehow I like you" dynamic between them...and then doesn't do that. And then she's a tennis player herself, and he gives her tips....and there's no follow-up. And she might understand him better than other people because she she doesn't project her own issues or ambitions onto him like everybody else...but then she doesn't know him at all. Bah. BAH. ::fist-shaking, yo::

See, some of the nicest moments between Ryoma and Sakuno in the anime (e.g. him actually putting on his jersey when she asks him to) do not happen in the manga. A certain amount of it seems to be a fairly lame (and unnecessary, looking at the fanbase now) attempt to draw younger girls into an anime made for younger boys. The biggest problem I have with Sakuno is her whining (if you've heard it, you'll know what I mean); her actual character is one I have a fair amount of sympathy with, what with having no sense of direction and a fairly obvious crush on a fairly uninterested guy, and all.

Ryoma is my favourite character. Kind of helps when the show is All About Him. But Taka's a nice second (BAAANINGU!!!), as well as a character or two from other teams.

And now I'm glad that I've actually watched stuff you've recommended, else I might feel like a shallow just-in-it-for-the-PoT kinda journal peruser.

Whining: as in, running off sobbing "Ryoma no baka!" when she mistakenly thinks he's commented "mada mada dane" on her cooking? Or does it get worse than that?

She doesn't inspire any kind of negative feeling in me; she's a milquetoast character in a minor role. I just want to like her, and find it mildly frustrating that there's nothing interesting about her. (I always had far more trouble with Sakura in Naruto, because she reeked of potential as a character and a person, and yet kept failing to grow or change in any positive ways.

...and then she did anyway. I forget the moral of this story.)

It does, doesn't it? ^^

>_> I should watch Mai-HiME ep. 16 and do a write-up, lest I feel like a shallow just-in-it-for-the-PoT fangirl which I totally am.
