I've heard only good things about this--things like "gem," "beautiful," "sweet," and "wonderful background art"--so I thought I'd check it out.
I like the pacing. It's very gentle--it has something of the effect that the Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou OAVs tried and failed to duplicate from the YKK manga.
That being said, it might be a little too understated and subtle where the characters are concerned. Emma's so reserved that I can't figure out what her personality is--besides "quiet and kind." The only point at which she stood out from the background was when she was thinking about her glasses, and her memory of seeing birds clearly for the first time.
William is a total...well, he stammers and wibbles a lot. I don't know. Maybe he'll grow on me. I'm not at all sold on the show, but the glasses scene was evocative enough that I'm willing to give it a chance.
