cerusee: a white redheaded girl in a classroom sitting by the window chewing on a pencil and looking bored (Default)

Oh my god. I did not realize this thing had the power to break my heart.

Emma staying in Kelly's room in case she needed her--and the opening of the next chapter, while she cleans the house--what understated grace; what delicacy of feeling. I can't think more than one or two other manga-ka with such...such masterful pacing, such control over atmosphere, manga-ka who have the power to say so much with such a soft voice.

It reminds me of that line from Sonnets from an Ungrafted Tree--"I don't know what you do exactly when someone dies." Or worse:

But it would strike her sometimes, making the tea:
She had kept that kettle boiling all night long, for company.

How often do you find a manga that feels like reading Edna St. Vincent Millay sonnets?
