Sakura: I've just run out of people to save me while I stand by and gasp, and that bitch is pulling my hair! Here we go! My last stand! Very dramatic! I'll cut my own hair off, which will so shock my hardened, murderous opponents that I will actually be able to wound one of them and...bite him... ::gets beaten within an inch of her life::
Audience: ...
Sakura: Well, better to get killed in a fight because I suck than not to fight at all, right?
Audience: OMG you still suck. plz don't die.

One of those horrible fuckers from the Hidden Sound village was holding her by the hair, so she cut it off with a whatchamacallit knife thingie. Kunai? It was very dramatic. They did an instant replay. Everybody gasped. There were little flashback interludes demonstrating how this was Symbolic and Important. Cheesy. And cool. And the Hidden Sound guys promptly beat her half to death, which was...distressing.

It's an Eastern concept though, the symbolism of a woman who cuts off her hair. It's more dramatic if you know this (or like me, are raised with that innate understanding of it).

Does it have anything to do with getting dumped by your boyfriend?

I did think it was pretty cool. I just wish it hadn't been followed by her losing the fight. ::sigh:: I suppose you can't lose a fight if you're not even in it.
