cerusee: a white redheaded girl in a classroom sitting by the window chewing on a pencil and looking bored (I have loved the stars too fondly)

Not quite as breathtaking as "The Satan Pit," but, on the whole, best of this season so far.

If you're going to insist on doing nothing but human-Earth-time-travel stories, this is not a bad sort of story to do (I am a massive sucker for "what does it mean to be human?" stories). I kind of bled for John Smith in this story--hitting my recently discovered WWI heartbreak soft spot didn't help with that--and though I never imagined they'd come up with a Companion quite as cool as Rose, they've definitely succeeded with that in Martha (and, well, definitely no prizes, but maybe an honorable mention for sort of brushing alongside of race from time to time.).

Oh, poor Martha. Poor, poor rebound Martha. I love her hugely, but I think she is doomed to be heartbroken on this show.

These episodes made me so horribly nostalgic for the English countryside. I wish I was there again.
