cerusee: a white redheaded girl in a classroom sitting by the window chewing on a pencil and looking bored (I have loved the stars too fondly)

Not quite as breathtaking as "The Satan Pit," but, on the whole, best of this season so far.

If you're going to insist on doing nothing but human-Earth-time-travel stories, this is not a bad sort of story to do (I am a massive sucker for "what does it mean to be human?" stories). I kind of bled for John Smith in this story--hitting my recently discovered WWI heartbreak soft spot didn't help with that--and though I never imagined they'd come up with a Companion quite as cool as Rose, they've definitely succeeded with that in Martha (and, well, definitely no prizes, but maybe an honorable mention for sort of brushing alongside of race from time to time.).

Oh, poor Martha. Poor, poor rebound Martha. I love her hugely, but I think she is doomed to be heartbroken on this show.

These episodes made me so horribly nostalgic for the English countryside. I wish I was there again.

I like Martha very, very much and I thought she was simply fantastic in these two episodes. Actually, these two and "Blink" are my favorites so far, even though I love Nine and Rose's (all too short) season and many of the other Ten and Rose episodes.

Also, where is the quote in your icon from?

I really liked season 1 and Nine and Rose's dynamic, but I was flabbergasted at how much better Ten clicked with me as The Doctor. Even when his individual episodes suck, I really enjoy watching him, with whatever companion. He's fun.

I had no idea until I googled it, but apparently, "The Old Astronomer to His Pupil," by Sarah Williams.

*laughs* I like them both, but I have to admit that David Tennant is very easy on the eyes. I think he brings this wonderful zany joyfulness to the role, and I love watching him in that. It's stopped me from thinking of him as "Barty Crouch, Jr., tongue-darting madman."
