Episode 3:
Awww, Tosh. You are awesome in all aspects, angst included. Bonus points for WWI angst. Ever since I read Dorothy Sayers, I've been sensitive to WWI angst.
Episode 4: Meat
There are times when I think Rhys is the best damn thing about this show. This is one of those times.
Episode 5: Adam
Kind of sad, not as sad as it should have been. Jack angsting about his past didn't have as much punch as it could have, but the funky AU-ish dynamics of happy, confident Tosh, and geeky, affectionate Owen made up for it. Also, bonus points for the Gwen and Rhys subplot and Jack being so supportive of them, and Jack just generally mothering everybody anyway. (I'd still rather that Jack was out adventuring with the tenth Doctor, but if he's going to insist on being with Torchwood, it should be like this, Jack loving and looking after his pseudo-family with mucho queso.)
I broadly enjoy all the soap switch-offs, with everybody lusting or pining after or sleeping with everyone else, but Gwen/Rhys is the only romantic pairing of the show I actually feel invested in. If Gwen ever gives Rhys up, or screws things up so badly that he dumps her, she'll be a lesser person for it.
Episode 6: Reset
Eeee! Martha! Martha's back! How cool is it that she's in UNIT, now? The Martha/Jack bonding scenes are so cute, as is the way the rest of Torchwood is a little bewildered and jealous of her, but she charms them out of it. If she's not going to go back to the Doctor, can she stay forever? Please?
I can't believe how much I don't hate Owen this season. When they stop writing him as a cynical, manipulative, jerk who's unnecessarily cruel to the people around him, he turns out to be a pretty likable fella.
Which brings us to:
Episode 7: Dead Man Walking
The premise of this episode would have unthinkable in season 1, because no one would ever have bothered to bring Owen back from the dead in season 1, not even for the code to the alien morgue. They'd have thrown a party; they might have danced on his grave. I would've, anyway; he was that big of a jerk.
Tosh's fast-fowarded confession of love was hilarious. Not in a dignity-stripping way, just generally. It's one of the principle rules of film; human beings are ridiculous when you speed them up.
Episode 8: A Day in the Death
If this were season 1 Owen, I would have done crossword puzzles while watching this episode. Now, I kinda give a damn.
...although if I never have to see Owen be an asshole to Tosh again, it'll still be too soon.
