Just finished with a batch of BPAL imps, and realized I hadn't ever posted the last two batches. More to follow!
Bewitching Brews:
THE JERSEY DEVIL
It was about three feet and half high, with a head like a collie dog and a face like a horse. It had a long neck, wings about two feet long, and its back legs were like those of a crane, and it had horse's hooves. It walked on its back legs and held up two short front legs with paws on them. It didn't use the front legs at all while we were watching. My wife and I were scared, I tell you, but I managed to open the window and say, "Shoo", and it turned around barked at me, and flew away.
The scent of the wild, hauntingly beautiful Pine Barrens of New Jersey! Pitch pine with blackberry leaf, cranberry, cedar wood and tomato leaf.
(Very woodsy--woods and leaves; I can make out cedar and maybe just a bit of pine; when it dries, it gets leafier, and I get the faintest hint of cranberry. Really nice, very autumnal. I'd like a house to smell like this.)
PHANTASM
This delicate, spectral perfume gives rise to an eerie distortion of of the senses. It bestows an ephemeral, ghostly, and truly haunting quality to your presence. Green tea, lemon verbena, jasmine and neroli.
YGGDRASIL
The World Ash. Nine woods, nine leaves, and three herbs each for Ratatosk and Vidofnir, with three final herbs to placate Nidhogg.
(Dark woods, dark, strong greenery, almost mossy.)
Excolo:
HIMERUS
The God of Sexual Desire, Longing and Yearning; an attendant of Eros and Aphrodite. A passion-rousing blend of juniper, sandalwood, rosewood, red musk, orchid, bergamot and lilac.
Diabolus:
PHOBOS
Twin to Deimos and child of War, Phobos is the embodiment of terror and mortal fear. Chilling white musk, lemon verbena, white grapefruit and lemongrass.
(At first application, bright, clear and sharp, citrusy and lemony, with a hiiiiiint of depth that's probably the musk. The musk comes out more as it dries--it softens and warms and turns sort of herbal-y sweet. It's more interesting when it hits the herbal stage)
Mad Tea Party:
THE KING OF HEARTS
Rosewood and black cherry with white musk, red rose, red musk and a spark of lavender.
(Wood, but lighter, with florals and a sharpness from the musk--I get the lavender at the beginning, but it fades fast.)
THE RED QUEEN
Deep mahogany and rich, velvety woods lacquered with sweet, black-red cherries and currant.
(Deep woods and red fruits, smooth and rich, like the mouthfeel of a good Shiraz.)
TWEEDLEDEE
Ridiculous! Kumquat, white pepper, white tea and orange blossom.
(Intensely sweet, intoxicatingly fruity, like a fruit punch, As the punch fades, I start to get a faintly spicy note--pepper? After it's good and dried, it gets a rich, leafy note--tea, I suppose.)
TWEEDLEDUM
Absurd! Green mango, fig, patchouli and green tea.
(So fruity! Hello, mango and fig. The patchouli's out there, too.)
Rappacini's Garden:
YEW-TREES
Piercingly sweet berries over evergreen boughs, deepened by the tree’s sacred wood.
(No berries, just resinous wood. When I'm really looking for it, I can almost smell the sweetness of the berries, and it definitely seems spicier than Yggdrasil...but then it goes away again. I think it's there but reeeeally subtle and blended. It might just be the age of the oil--this imp is many, many months old, and I'm guessing it's mellowed. It's interesting to compare Yggdrasil and Yew-Trees, since they're both wood scents, but they're quite distinctly different--one is cooler and green; the other is warmer, and spicy)
Illyria:
LADY MACBETH
The essence of ambition, covetousness and manipulation: sweet Bordeaux wine, blood red currant, thyme and wild berries.
(Fruity and wine-y. I wish the thyme was stronger--there's a red wine I like with thyme notes, and I hoped this would smell like it tastes.)
