studying about that good old way

HIIIIIII FLIST. HIIIIIIIIIIIIII. kr, I would so take you up on that offer if I could.
I'm not quite as utterly fucking batshit as I was last night, but I'm still crazy mood swinging all over the place. I CANNOT GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HEAD. I have a weakness for hymns, and this one is very catchy.
On Manga:
I'm sulking right now because I spent my lunch break reading a Shoujo Beat sampler, and I was half ready to subscribe to the Shoujo Beat magazine until I realized the sampler was just for Viz's upcoming shoujo graphic novels, not the titles carried in the magazine itself. But I am now very much in a shoujo manga mood, and I have no shoujo manga.
Current wish list (excluding all those volumes of Prince of Tennis and Naruto and Alice 19th I don't have yet): MeriPuri, Ultra Maniac, W Juliet, Tramps Like Us, Paradise Kiss, and Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden. And while I'm at it, why don't I wish for all the untranslated works of Moto Hagio? (Hanshin blew my mind. Jesus.)
Can anyone give me a good idea of whether or not I'll hate myself if I buy Vol. 1 of Hot Gimmick just to see what all the fuss is about?

on 2005-09-23 02:33 am (UTC)RE: Hot Gimmick: You will hate yourself a lot. But you will not be able to turn away from the beautiful cracktastic trainwreck of evil. It offends every feminist bone in my body, but I love it so much and hate myself for it. I have deep, deep issues with Hot Gimmick, and it fascinates me, and I have not read scanslations because I want to make it last as long as possible because it is only 12 volumes NOOOOO. (It could be worse: it could be "Teacher's Pet", the HG mangaka's latest manga, which is RAPE FANTASY PORN.)
I have Merupuri volumes 1-3 (WANT FOUR WANT WAAAAH) and all of Alice 19th and the first 4(?) volumes of Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden (WANT ALL WAAAANT WAAAAH). I'm trying to stay away from W Juliet scanlations because I also want to make it last as long as possible.
Can you use IRC (and FTP)? I can point you to the sites to hook up with shoujo crack. (The real crack jackpots are not on IRC; the real crack jackpots are the FTP addresses/passwords that you find listed on IRC. I downloaded about 30 volumes of shoujo from a ShoujoMagic FTP archive last night, just for the hell of it.)

on 2005-09-23 03:13 am (UTC)I think maybe I'll just put Hot Gimmick really low on the list, so I won't buy it until I already own all of, say, Fruits Basket.
(I sort of ehed at W Juliet for awhile until I actually picked it up in the store and discovered the premise, at which point my kinky brain was sold. I also keep looking at romance novels and thinking "That sounds nice," even though very few of them are likely to incorporate cross-dressing Ahhhh, shoujo, you corrupter.)

on 2005-09-23 03:22 am (UTC)I think I'll steer clear for now, because I have not heard "You need to read this in order to understand what the manga scene's about," and there's a long waiting list of titles less controversial I know I want to read.
