Still better than the Tea Country arc. Thus far, the Special Guest Star is oodles less annoying than Idate, not that's remotely difficult.

Compare and contrast.

Tea Country arc:

Idate's beloved, trusted boss: Hey Idate, I hired these people to protect you from the people trying to murder you. I know this kid, too, he's all right.
Team 7: ::saves Idate from certain death::
Idate: AUUUUUGH! YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL MEEEEE! ::ditches them::

Rice Country arc:

Sakura: Even though we randomly snatched you away from your pursuers without a word, I promise we're here to help you. Now strip.
Sasame: ::tells them her deeply personal troubles and shares valuable information::
Naruto: Grrr! Don't worry, we'll save your cousin, despite having no motivation to do so besides being decent, friendly people!
Sasame: Thank you!

See? This arc also has important character development. For instance:

Jiraiya: I like women.
Naruto: So do I.
Sakura: Apparently, so do I.
Naruto: Hey Sakura, I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I know Sexy no Jutsu, and Sasuke doesn't.
Sakura: Okay, but let's wait until after the timeskip, when we're all hot and badass and I have fuck me boots.


It's possible I made some of that up.

Ever since the timeskip, the idea of NaruSaku has been growing on me. It's something to do with Sakura actually paying attention to Naruto, and caring about him, and being so happy when he comes back... ::points to icon:: Oh, and the fight with Kakashi where the two of them--despite not having seen each other in years--display more camaraderie and teamwork that Team 7 ever did before. That was awesome.

This is like my fandom rite of passage. I'm not really in a fandom until I ship at least one unpopular pairing that no one writes.

I'm still not onboard with the NaruSaku ship. =___= Yes, Sakura is being much more attentive to Naruto after the timeskip, but we've already seen that the barest mention of Sasuke turns her back into her 12-year old self in a flash. >_O;

I'm rather afraid that it always will be that way with Sakura. That and... she was really really really a bitch to Naruto before. Hell, he nearly DIED to fulfill her wish and what does he get? nothing. It's not: "Hey, Naruto, I realize now Sasuke is being a bastard and I want you to stay alive," it's: "Sasuke will come back and I'll even help!"

*sighs*

... but I like Team Seven threesomes.

I actually have hope because for the first time, she's actually better, instead of just vowing to be better at some unspecified point in the future.

Team 7 will always be my OT3, though. It ties things up so neatly--you don't have to deal with the messy question of what happened to Sakura's love for Sasuke, or Naruto's love for Sakura, or Sasuke's hang-up on Naruto.

I reserve my opinion on timeskip!Sakura. She simply hasn't DONE much of anything for me to decide (and her backsliding about sasuke pissed me off greatly). we've seen her chakra control and healing, but that's like... nothing new? We've KNOWN that Sakura has perfect chakra control and was learning to heal. I want to see Sakura do something TOTALLY AWESOME. She's been trained by TSUNADE. She HAS to be able to do cool stuff.

And Team 7 is wonderful, though I DO like nice Naruto/Neji/Hinata vibes. I read a good fic with that and *happy sigh*. Those two are my favorite bisexual 3somes for Naruto.

The Pocky Country arc: Naruto finds the Golden Ticket in a special cup of instant ramen and wins a free trip to Japan! Team 7 travels to Tokyo, and wacky hijinks ensue!

Heh. One of my fic ideas still in development has the Special Team of Neji, Naruto, and Hinata dispatched out-country, where they arrive in Tokyo and are eyeballing a group of High School Shinobi, to keep the treasures of the Madougu from falling into the hands of Orochimaru. (xover with Flame of Recca.)

It'll have the three of the shacking up in a tiny ass apartment. :D
